Dental Implants
If you are missing a tooth, you are most likely a candidate for a dental implant. Dental implants are prosthetic tooth replacements that work by replacing both the root and crown of your missing tooth, restoring your smile, oral function, and your quality of life.
Implants consist of two main parts; an implant post and implant restoration. The implant post is a small screw, usually made of titanium or another biocompatible material, which is surgically inserted into your jawbone to replace your natural tooth root. The implant post mimics the function of your tooth root, stimulating your supporting jawbone so that it remains healthy and providing a stable foundation for your implant restoration.
After your implant post has been placed and you have healed, our dentist will work with you to create a restoration to replace your tooth. Depending on your individual needs and the number of teeth you are replacing, your implant restoration may be a crown, bridge, or denture. Your restoration will be custom-designed to match your other teeth and provide you with a comfortable, aesthetic, and functional solution for your smile.
Almost everyone is a candidate for dental implants. As long as your mouth is healthy and you have enough supporting bone tissue, you should be able to receive this treatment without difficulty. If you have tooth decay or gum disease or are lacking supportive bone tissue, you will need to receive treatment for those problems before Dr. Andrew Cohen can place your implant.
Implants are designed to last for a lifetime and will do so when properly cared for with good oral hygiene and in-office preventive care. If you receive an implant, please follow all instructions provided for home care and continue to visit our dentist regularly for cleanings and exams.
